1st Quarter 2015 SATCH GRANT and SATCH CAPITAL 2014 final update

The winners of the 1st Quarter Satch Grant are
Catholic Charities Weekend Hunger Backpack Program, Micanopy Middle School and Tower Square Pediatrics.  Each of these organizations will receive $500 to further initiatives that will help the populations they serve. They are able to make a big impact with just a $500 donation.

Catholic Charities mission is to provide services to anyone in need, regardless of race or religion. Catholic Charities currently serves almost 800 students in the Weekend Hunger Backpack Program, and the number is continually growing. WHBP staffers assess the family's food needs and every Friday provide backpacks filled with enough food to feed the child and any dependent siblings for the weekend. Catholic Charities can fill 60 backpacks for children to take home with a donation of $500

Micanopy Middle School is a free public charter school which serves and supports students through academics but also by promoting the 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens to teach and reinforce important and personal life skills. This grant will help the school start a butterfly garden to provide a unique learning experience in the natural world and also provide a way to invite the community to share in the project.

Tower Square Pediatrics a part of UF Health Pediatric Primary Care has been participating in the Reach Out and Read Program since 1998. This program promotes early literacy and school readiness by incorporating children's books into pediatric well-child visits and coaches parents on the importance of reading aloud to their children. Books are given to children at their well-child examinations, from 6 months to 5 years of age. Each child should receive a total of 9 books by their 5-year well-child visit. This great program hopes to enhance each child's literacy and their love for reading.

SATCH CAPITAL 2014 Final Update
A portion of Satch Capital 2014 was awarded to Southwest Advocacy Group (SWAG) to help with their final renovations and we attended their grand opening in March. Another part went to PACE Center for Girls-Alachua who used the funding to enhance their outdoor area as a place for the girls to study, talk and be outside! There were still funds left, so the giving committee chose Youth Combine. Youth Combine is a local after-school fitness program that empowers youth with the values of hard-work, dedication and responsibility through effective fitness programming and education. Youth Combine is on it's third year of providing after-school fitness for middle school students. It currently serves two middle schools but wants to expand and a van (to transport their fitness gear from site to site) is the future for Youth Combine. The van will take Youth Combine's programming to more kids throughout the city. They hope to acquire a van within a month or so. Congratulations! Over $12,000 was donated to SWAG, PACE and  Youth Combine with this Capital grant. Thank you Satchel's customers for giving back!
